SPY Inspection Equipment
- Holiday Detectors: These devices are used to find “holidays” (pinholes, voids, or defects) in non-conductive coatings on pipelines. The equipment applies a low or high voltage (depending on coating thickness) across the coated surface; if a defect is present, the electrical current flows to the underlying metal and triggers an audible and visual alarm. This process is sometimes referred to as “jeeping”.
- Jeep Meters: These are used to accurately measure and verify the output voltage of a holiday detector, ensuring the inspection is performed at the correct voltage level for specific coating thicknesses and environmental conditions.
- Pig Trackers: Pipeline inspection gauges, or “pigs,” are devices that travel through the pipeline to clean or inspect it. SPY manufactures electronic pig tracking systems that use a transmitter placed inside the pig and a hand-held receiver wand to locate the pig’s position, especially if it becomes stuck.
